Coloured Contact Lenses

Coloured lenses are becoming a huge rage among people today and are being used not only for vision correction but fashion and theatrics as well. Many of these colored contact lenses are available in plano form which means that they can be used by people who are not in need of prescription glasses. They can designed in such a way that they can be used by people who have astigmatism, need bifocal correction, or those who want a disposable or frequent replacement lens.

The companies that make colored contact lenses have proved to be quite innovative and very successful in mimicking the natural look of the colored portion of the eye. Since this area is made up of a series of colorful shapes and lines, some color contacts feature a series of tiny colored dots on the lens to make it look more natural on the eye. Moreover, they are so well designed that the center of the lens, the part over your pupil is clear so your vision is not affected.

There are four types of colored contact lenses: visibility tints, enhancement tints, opaque color tints and light-filtering tints.

A visibility tint is generally a light blue or green tint added to a lens with a prime purpose of being able to see the lens better while insertion and removal. Since it's a very light tint, it does not affect eye color.

An enhancement tint is a solid tint that is slightly darker than a visibility tint. It also affects the eye color by enhancing it. Lighter coloured eyes become darker and more intense.

Color tints are deeper, opaque tints that can change your eye color totally, for example brown eyes can become green with color tints. Color contacts come in a wide variety of colors, including hazel, green, blue, violet, amethyst and gray.

Light-filtering tints are recently developed and are designed for sports use, because they enhance certain colors by diminishing others. They can make the gold ball or the tennis ball look more distinct against the background. The result is that the ball stands out against the background and is easier to target.

Traditional soft contact lenses are made from hydrogel polymers which are soft, water-containing plastics.
